Thai Word of the Day: “kaam” (ข้าม)

“kaam” (ข้าม) can be used in the following ways:

main verb: to cross (over to the other side)

The verb “kaam” (ข้าม) is used when we go from one side of something such as a road or river to the other.

Examples:

– raw jun-gwa mai mee rot lae man bplode-phai thee ja kaam
(Wait until there is no traffic and it’s safe to cross)
– man meud laeo dtawn phuak-rao kaam chai-daaen Fa-rang-sade
(It was dark when we crossed the French border)
– ter yak nae-jai waa phuak-dek-dek dai kaam tha-non yaang-bplode-phai
(She wanted to be sure the children had crossed the road safely)
