Thai Word of the Day: “ngaow” (เหงา)

“ngaow” (เหงา) can be used in the following ways:

adjective: is lonely

The adjective “ngaow” (เหงา) is used when we feel unhappy because we are alone or because we have no friends.

Examples:

chan mai keuy ngaow
ฉันไม่เคยเหงา
(I’m never lonely)

tham-mai khun roo-seuk ngaow?
ทำไมคุณรู้สึกเหงา?
(Why do you feel lonely?)

ter kung dtawng roo-seuk ngaow maak phraw waa krawb-krua kawng-ter yoo thee Scotland
เธอคงต้องรู้สึกเหงาเพราะว่าครอบครัวของเธออยู่ในสกอตแลนด์
(She must be feeling very lonely because her family is in Scotland)
