Thai Word of the Day: “sia naa” (เสียหน้า)

“sia naa” (เสียหน้า) can be used in the following ways:

phrase: to lose face / to be dishonoured / to be discredited

The phrase “sia naa” (เสียหน้า) is used when someone makes someone else feel very embarrassed and ashamed; or to can no longer impress people or be respected by them.


kao tham hai chan sia naa meua-keun-nee
(He made me lose face last night)

chan roo-seuk sia-naa dtawn kao phood baeb nan
(I felt dishonoured when he said that)

kao ja sia naa thaa kao mai tham yaang thee kao phood wai
(He will lose face if he doesn’t do what he says)
