Thai Word of the Day: “tham hai ngung” (ทำให้งง)

“tham hai ngung” (ทำให้งง) can be used in the following ways:

verb: to confuse / to baffle (someone)

The verb “tham hai ngung” (ทำให้งง) is used when someone makes someone else feel that they do not understand something. The person being made to feel confused is place between “tham hai” and “ngung”: “tham hai …. ngung”

Examples:

kao tham hai chan roo-seuk ngung
เขาทำให้ฉันรู้สึกงง
(He made me feel confused)

kam-phood kawng-kao tham hai ter ngung
คำพูดของเขาทำให้เธองง
(His words made her confused)

ka-dee ka-dta-gam lao-nee yang tham hai dtam-ruad ngung
คดีฆาตกรรมเหล่านี้ยังทำให้ตำรวจงง
(These murders still baffled the police)

tha khun mai a-ti-baai yaang-chad-jane, khun ja tham hai phoo-aan ngung
ถ้าคุณไม่อธิบายอย่างชัดเจนคุณจะทำให้ผู้อ่านงง
(If you don’t explain clearly, you will confuse the reader)
to make someone feel that they do not understand something
