Thai Word of the Day: “dtaam tan” (ตามทัน)

“dtaam tan” (ตามทัน) can be used in the following ways:

verb: to catch up (to something) / to keep up (with something)

The verb “dtaam tan” (ตามทัน) is to go faster so that you reach the person or vehicle in front of you; or to improve in order to reach the same standard or rate as someone or something.


haak khun reeb, khun na-ja dtaam tan phuak-kao thee sa-phaan
หากคุณรีบ คุณน่าจะตามทันพวกเขาที่สะพาน
(If you hurry, you should catch up with them at the bridge)

kao kaad rong-rian maak jun man ad-ja yaak sam-rap kao thee ja dtaam tan
(He’s missed so much school that he’s going to find it difficult to catch up)

man bpen-bpai-mai-dai thee ja dtaam tan tuk-kon lae tuk-yaang dta-lawd way-laa
(It’s impossible to keep with up everyone and everything all the time)

phuak-rao awk ma gawn naa phuak-kao, dtae nai-mai-chaa phuak-kao gaw dtaam tan phuak-rao eek
พวกเราออกมาก่อนหน้าพวกเขา แต่ในไม่ช้าพวกเขาก็ตามทันพวกเราอีก
(We left before them, but they soon caught us up again)
