Thai Word of the Day: “kad-jai” (ขัดใจ)

“kad-jai” (ขัดใจ) can be used in the following ways:

verb: to displease / to disagree with / to offend

The verb “kad-jai” (ขัดใจ) is to do or say something that makes someone upset or angry by not agreeing with their opinion or allowing them to do something that they want to do. It is literally “to go against someone’s heart”.

Examples:

chan mai chawb kad-jai krai
ฉันไม่ชอบขัดใจใคร
(I don’t like to disagree with anyone)

tham-mai khun dtawng kad-jai chan dta-lawd way-laa
ทำไมคุณต้องขัดใจฉันตลอดเวลา
(Why do you have to displease me all the time?)

ter dtawng ra-wang dtua mai hai kad-jai kao phraw waa kao bpen kon aa-rom raai
เธอต้องระวังตัวไม่ให้ขัดใจเขาเพราะเขาเป็นคนอารมณ์ร้าย
(She must be careful not to offend him because he has a bad temper)
