Thai Word of the Day: “saew” (แซว)

“saew” (แซว) can be used in the following ways:

verb: to tease / to make fun of

The verb “saew” (แซว) is used when we say something to someone in order to have fun by embarrassing or annoying them slightly in a playful way.


phom mai dai dtang-jai: phom kaeo saew len
ผมไม่ได้ตั้งใจ: ผมแค่แซวเล่น
(I didn’t mean it: I was only teasing)

chan keuy saew ter gio-gap reuang mee faen-dek
(I used to tease her about having a toyboy)

kao mak-ja saew chan gio-gap sam-niang kawng-chan sa-meur
(He is always teasing me about my accent)
