Thai Word of the Day: “yawk-len” (หยอกเล่น)

“yawk-len” (หยอกเล่น) can be used in the following ways:

verb: to tease / to kid

The verb “yawk-len” (หยอกเล่น) is used when someone say something to someone else in order to have fun by embarrassing or annoying them slightly in either a friendly or an unkind way. Sometimes we just say “yawk” (หยอก) or even “yawk-law” (หยอกล้อ).


phom mai dai phood jing. phom kae yawk-len
ผมไม่ได้พูดจริง ผมแค่หยอกเล่น
(I didn’t mean it. I was only kidding)

kao chawb yawk chan sa-meur gio-gap sam-niang kawng-chan
(He like to tease me about my accent)

ผมไม่ได้หยอกเล่นเกี่ยวกับเรื่องที่ผมชอบเธอ ผมเอาจริง
