Thai Word of the Day: “yua” (ยั่ว)

“yua” (ยั่ว) can be used in the following ways:

verb: to provoke / to tease (someone)

The verb “yua” (ยั่ว) is to deliberately annoy someone in order to cause a negative reaction from them.


kao pha-yaa-yaam yua hai chan ta-lot gap kao
(He was trying to provoke me into an argument with him)

chan bpra-dti-sade thee ja thuuk yua duay kam-phood kawng-kao
(I refused to be provoked by his words)

phuak-kao yua kao yaang-rai-kwaam-bpra-nee gio-gap sam-niang kawng-kao
(They teased him mercilessly about his accent)
