Thai Word of the Day: “gra-jawk” (กระจอก)

“gra-jawk” (กระจอก) can be used in the following ways:

adjective: is shoddy / is poor / is second-rate

The adjective “gra-jawk” (กระจอก) is used for saying that something is badly and carelessly made, using low quality materials; or for saying that someone is not as good as someone else; also used for saying that someone is poor.


– furniture gra-jawk lae ra-ka thuuk
(The furniture is shoddy and cheap)

– man pha-lid phaab thee mee khun-na-phaab gra-jawk
(It produces photographs of inferior quality)

– chan mak-ja reo thee-ja bon gio-gap garn-baw-ri-harn gra-jawk
(I’m normally quick to complain about shoddy service)

– krawb-krua kawng-ter gra-jawk lae mai mee mae-gra-thang computer
(Her family was poor and didn’t even have a computer)

Practice Exercise: Practice putting your newly learned word into a sentence by translating the following sentences below.
