Thai Word of the Day: “haa-reu” (หารือ)

“haa-reu” (หารือ) can be used in the following ways:

verb: to discuss / to confer / to consult

The verb “haa-reu” (หารือ) is used for saying that you want to talk about something with someone so you can share ideas and opinions with each other.


– khun kuan haa-reu bpan-haa nee gap maw kawng-khun
(You should discuss this problem with your doctor)

– phom dtawng-garn way-laa haa-reu tha-naai kawng-phom
(I need some time to confer with my lawyer)

– phuak-rao ja bpra-chum pheua haa-reu gio-gap reuang nee aa-thid naa
(We’re meeting to discuss the matter next week)

– haak khun mee kor-sung-sai, bprode haa-reu phoo-bpreuk-saa thaang-garn-ngeuhn

Practice Exercise: Practice putting your newly learned word into a sentence by translating the following sentences below.

1. We need to discuss future plans.
2. Why didn’t you consult me about this?
3. If the symptoms get worse, consult your doctor.
4. He asked for some time to confer with his lawyers.
5. I will be discussing the situation with colleagues tomorrow.
