Thai Word of the Day: “yua” (ยั่ว)

“yua” (ยั่ว) can be used in the following ways:

main verb: to provoke / to tease

The verb “yua” (ยั่ว) is used when someone is deliberately say something in order to cause a reaction or to make someone else angry.

Examples:

– kao pha-yaa-yaam yua khun (He is trying to provoke you)
– ter mai sa-maad yua hai kao ta-lot gap ter (She couldn’t provoke him into arguing with her)
– khun yaa yua chan, chan a-rom mai koi dee wan-nee
(Don’t you tease me, I’m not in a very good mood today)
